Seaview Road House
Seaview Road House is located on a long, narrow site that descends from the road down to the waterfront in Paremata. The section is characterised by a layered landscape of established native trees, some over a century old, interspersed with overgrown introduced species. The existing house was originally constructed in the 1940s and had remained largely untouched for more than two decades.
While the building was structurally sound and retained a quiet 1940s character, it had been shaped by a different way of living. The house was inward-looking, loosely connected to its site, and no longer supported the needs of the clients’ growing whānau. Despite this, the clients recognised the value of what already existed. With a strong awareness of sustainability and a desire to build upon the history of the place, the brief centred on extending and reworking the house rather than replacing it allowing the project to respond more closely to the landscape while respecting the continuity of the site
